Wang Yi Meets with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn

On August 13, 2023 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Phnom Penh with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn.

Prak Sokhonn expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China for its long-term selfless help to Cambodia's economic and social development and its strong support for Cambodia in successfully advancing important agendas. The new Cambodian government will continue to firmly pursue the friendly policy towards China, stay firmly committed to the one-China principle, support China's just positions on China's internal affairs related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong, among others, and strengthen communication and coordination on regional and multilateral affairs. Cambodia and China have had close high-level interactions, which have consolidated the ironclad friendship and yielded fruitful outcomes of cooperation, and Cambodia looks forward to working with China to advance the building of a high-quality, high-level and high-standard Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era.

Wang Yi said that he paid this visit at the important moments of Cambodia's building on past achievements and embarking on a new journey, and China has full confidence in the future of Cambodia and China-Cambodia relations. Since this year, President Xi Jinping has met respectively with King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, raising the curtain on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the Year of China-Cambodia Friendship, and drawing a grand blueprint for a China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era. China is ready to work with Cambodia to follow the direction jointly identified by the leaders of the two countries to constantly push China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights and write a new chapter of China-Cambodia friendship.

Wang Yi thanked Prak Sokhonn for his contribution to promoting China-Cambodia friendship, and stressed that China-Cambodia friendship is rock-solid. The two countries have always stood firmly together on issues concerning their respective core interests, which is a testament to the common aspirations of building a community with a shared future. China and Cambodia have contributed to regional peace, stability and development by jointly upholding the basic principle of non-interference in internal affairs. China is ready to work with Cambodia to understand, trust and support each other in multilateral affairs, and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of each other and other developing countries.
