On August 12, 2023 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Phnom Penh with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister-designate and Minister Delegate Attached to Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea.

Sok Chenda Sophea warmly welcomed Wang Yi to pay a visit as Cambodia successfully held the general election, saying that this is the most timely and strongest support for Cambodia and also demonstrates China's great importance to Cambodia-China relations. China has always given a helping hand to Cambodia at crucial moments to help Cambodia achieve peace, stability, development and revitalization, which has strengthened its confidence and capability to safeguard independence. Cambodia thanks China for its timely assistance to Cambodia with COVID-19 vaccines, its support for Cambodia's successful hosting of the Southeast Asian Games, and its efforts in infrastructure development. Cambodia-China cooperation has helped Cambodia rapidly improve people's livelihood, create job opportunities and bring development opportunities. Cambodia looks forward to working with China to follow through on the common understandings of the leaders of the two countries, continuously enhance the strategic nature of Cambodia-China relations, expand cooperation areas and set a good example for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Wang Yi said that the traditional friendship between China and Cambodia, forged by the older generation of leaders of the two countries, is long-tested and ironclad, which is the most valuable asset of both sides and deserves to be cherished. President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to China-Cambodia relations, and the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries to jointly build a China-Cambodia community with a shared future has chartered the course for China-Cambodia relations. China will always be a reliable cooperative partner for Cambodia to seek development and revitalization, and a strong supporter when Cambodia encounters difficulties. The recent general election in Cambodia was a great success, and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) led by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has won an overwhelming victory, showing the people's aspirations. The endorsement and support of the general public provide the greatest confidence and solid foundation for the CPP to face up to challenges and eliminate external interference. China is ready to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Cambodia, and substantiate the bilateral "diamond hexagon" cooperation framework, so as to make the China-Cambodia friendship as unbreakable, shining, eternal and ever-lasting as diamonds.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on deepening China-ASEAN cooperation and agreed to maintain close communication and coordination, support ASEAN centrality, and promote regional peace, stability and development to achieve all-win and win-win results.
