Wang Yi Meets with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong and Deputy Prime Minister-designate Sun Chanthol

On August 12, 2023 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong and Deputy Prime Minister-designate Sun Chanthol upon his arrival in Phnom Penh.

Wang Yi extended congratulations to Cambodia on the successful general election and the upcoming formation of a new government. As a comprehensive strategic cooperative partner which is building the China-Cambodia community with a shared future, China firmly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions, safeguarding sovereignty, independence and national dignity, and playing a greater role in regional and international affairs. Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong has long been committed to enhancing China-Cambodia friendship and has put in enormous efforts to deepen the all-round cooperation between the two countries since he served as Chairman of the Cambodian side of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee. Deputy Prime Minister-designate Sun Chanthol has actively promoted the Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries, and fruitful results have been achieved in the practical cooperation between the two countries. China welcomes Mr. Sun Chanthol to take over the next chairmanship of the Cambodian side of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee. China looks forward to working with Cambodia to follow the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and the Cambodian leader, give full play to the coordinating role of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, deepen the building of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era, and live up to the trust of the leaders of the two countries and the expectations of the two peoples. China will continue to support Cambodia in improving its infrastructure, upgrading its industrial development and propelling its development and prosperity.

Hor Namhong and Sun Chanthol expressed gratitude to China for taking Cambodia as an ironclad friend and always standing firmly with Cambodia at critical moments. Cambodia-China practical cooperation has made smooth progress and achieved fruitful results. The construction of nearly 4,000 kilometers of roads and 10 bridges across rivers with aid from China has helped Cambodia take on a new look, fully demonstrating the tangible benefits that the Cambodia-China community with a shared future has brought to Cambodia. They look forward to taking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Cambodia-China Year of Friendship this year as an opportunity to advance the Cambodia-China community with a shared future to a new level and carry forward the great friendship between Cambodia and China.
